Two former FBI officials face charges of allegedly lying to Congress about the bureau’s Hunter Biden investigations, according to a court docket. Nikki Floris and Bradley Benavides each face one count; the case was filed through a criminal complaint, not a grand jury indictment.
U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said the two surrendered Friday morning. She alleged they gave false accounts of their roles in the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force and its Hunter Biden investigations. Floris was a deputy assistant director in the bureau’s Counterintelligence Division; both former officials have faced criticism from allies of President Donald Trump.
Floris’s attorneys denied the accusation and said the charges were politically motivated. The court docket did not yet list an attorney for Benavides. Hunter Biden was convicted of gun and tax crimes before his father, former President Joe Biden, pardoned him shortly before leaving office.
