Ukrainian forces report continuing disruptions to Starlink despite US President Donald Trump’s claim that Elon Musk had restored full service. Ukrainian officials said on Friday morning that connections still appeared to be limited to speeds of about 100mph.
Serhii Beskrestnov, a military expert who advises President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said he had seen no indication that the restrictions had been lifted. He said occasional connections above the limit were likely due to SpaceX’s algorithms or particular conditions of use, rather than a change to the restrictions.
The speed cap has hampered Ukrainian military equipment, including drones, trying to maintain a connection while moving quickly. That has affected drone operations and efforts to intercept incoming Russian attacks.
The slowdown began last week after Trump and Musk criticised Zelenskyy over continued strikes on Russian oil refineries. Both men deny responsibility for the restrictions, leaving it unclear who ordered them or why.
