Crowley has accepted delivery of Venture, a new tug intended for ship-assist and escort work at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The chartered vessel adds capacity for helping cargo ships move through the Southern California harbor complex.
The 82-foot tug was built by Diversified Marine on the Columbia River. Its twin Caterpillar engines produce more than 6,000 horsepower, while its azimuth stern drive thrusters help it maneuver alongside large vessels. Venture can deliver up to 95 tons of bollard pull.
Los Angeles and Long Beach together form the nation’s busiest container port complex. Crowley said the tug will support harbor operations at the San Pedro Bay gateway, where escort vessels help ships navigate port waters.
