The U.S. Coast Guard rescued at least 16 people from the Pacific Ocean off Mexico’s Baja California coast before dawn Friday. Authorities continued searching for several others in the water.
Those rescued had been seen floating offshore. The search area is frequented by smugglers who transport migrants by boat to the United States.
