The Lakers selected Ziaire Williams and Matisse Thybulle for the two open spots in their starting lineup against the Golden State Warriors. The forwards join Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves and Walker Kessler for the season opener.
Coach JJ Redick had settled on Doncic, Reaves and Kessler before training camp but kept the other positions open. Williams started both preseason games he played and made all five of his three-point attempts. Thybulle averaged 1.3 steals per game in the preseason.
Quentin Grimes was also considered for a starting role after starting the first four preseason games. Guard Collin Sexton is out with a right soleus strain, although Redick said he practiced fully Monday without a setback.
