Miami moved to No. 1 in the college football Top 25 after five of the previous top eight teams lost on Saturday.
The unbeaten Hurricanes received 40 first-place votes and reached the top spot for the first time since 2002. Georgia, previously No. 1, dropped to No. 5 after a last-second home loss to unranked Auburn.
BYU climbed to No. 2 after defeating then-No. 2 Notre Dame, which fell to No. 4. The Big 12 said officials should have added one second to the clock in that game. Texas Tech rose two places to No. 8 following a decisive win over Arizona State.
The Big 12 and Big Ten now have three teams each in the top 10; the SEC has two, down from four the previous week. No SEC team remains unbeaten.
