Two people, including a child, were killed when a vehicle crossed a football pitch during a game at the Stryker soccer complex in Wichita, Kansas, police said. Several others were injured.
Aaron Moses of the Wichita Police Department said on Saturday that the driver was in custody and two juveniles had been inside the vehicle. Police said a child died at the scene and an adult was also killed. Their names and ages have not been released pending notification of their families.
The injured were taken to hospital, but the severity of their injuries was not known. Moses said he did not know the vehicle’s speed or how it reached the pitch. The incident remains under investigation.
The city has cancelled all events at the complex until further notice. Police have opened a portal for people to submit video of what happened.
