A six-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man died after a truck drove through a youth football game in Wichita, Kansas, on Saturday, authorities said. Eleven other people were reported injured.
Wichita police said the truck crossed a field at Stryker Sports Complex at about 3.30pm. Officers responding to emergency calls found it on the complex’s west field. The two people killed were from McPherson, Kansas, and were not related, police said.
Police took the driver, a 34-year-old woman from Garden City, into custody. Two juveniles were in the truck with her. Authorities had not immediately released her name or the victims’ names, and a possible motive remained unclear early on Sunday.
Ten of the injured had serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said. They included children aged five, eight and nine. The eleventh person reported injured, a 61-year-old woman, had non-traumatic medical issues.
