President Donald Trump said he would not rename the Hudson or Mississippi rivers, while raising the possibility of new names for an ocean and another river.
Speaking at a Saturday evening rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, Trump said he wanted to add a river and an ocean to the places he has sought to rename before leaving office. He cited explorer Henry Hudson as a reason to keep the Hudson River’s name. For the Mississippi, he pointed to his electoral success in the state.
Trump mentioned the Atlantic and Pacific as possible oceans to rename, floating Trump Ocean and Ocean of the Americas as names. He did not identify another river. His comments follow his move to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America and his direction to federal agencies to use Lake America for Lake Ontario.
