Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has called for AI systems that let an authorized person stop a model while it is working. In a Saturday post on X, he likened the safeguard to an emergency brake.
Nadella proposed keeping the model separate from the software that directs its work and placing controls outside the model itself. He also called for a tamper-proof, human-readable record of consequential model actions.
His proposal treats a model as potentially compromised from the outset, rather than relying on its outputs without independent safeguards. The comments come amid discussion of AI safety among technology executives; Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has also published a plan urging more cautious AI development.
