Russian strikes hit six energy facilities in Ukraine hours after Donald Trump announced an energy ceasefire, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
Trump said on Sunday that the agreement would take effect immediately. Zelensky said 33 people were injured in the attacks on energy sites and accused Russia of continuing to target other facilities.
Ukrenergo, Ukraine’s state-owned grid operator, said Russian attacks had damaged equipment, leaving parts of Kharkiv, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia without power. It said electricity was being rationed in some areas to protect damaged equipment. Ukraine’s state news agency Ukrinform reported blackouts in Izyum after a strike destroyed power grids. Energy and railway infrastructure in western Ukraine was also targeted overnight.
On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Ukraine did not deserve the pause that a ceasefire would bring.
