Russian strikes hit six Ukrainian energy facilities within hours of Donald Trump announcing an energy ceasefire, President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
Trump said on Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop targeting energy infrastructure with immediate effect. Zelensky said 33 people were injured in subsequent strikes and accused Russia of continuing to attack energy sites. On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Ukraine did not deserve the respite a ceasefire would bring.
Ukraine’s state-owned grid operator, Ukrenergo, reported power cuts in Kharkiv, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia after Russian attacks damaged energy equipment. It said electricity was being rationed in some areas to avoid overloading damaged systems. A strike also destroyed parts of the power grid in Izyum, causing blackouts, Ukraine’s state news agency reported.
