Major incidents have been declared as moorland fires continue at Dovestone and around Swineshaw and Tintwistle, damaging a combined 885 hectares of land.
Firefighters have spent more than seven days tackling the blaze near Dovestone Reservoir in Greenfield, Oldham. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews carried out a controlled burn at Tintwistle, near Glossop, on Saturday night, July 18. It warned that the operation would increase smoke for the next 24 hours, with easterly winds carrying it towards Manchester, and asked residents not to report that smoke to its control team.
In the investigation into the Dovestone fire, Shania Care-Slede, 20, of Market Street, Hyde, has been charged with arson and appeared in court on Tuesday. Police also made two further arrests; both people were bailed.
Crews dealt with another moorland fire on Thursday after a car caught fire on the A628 Woodhead Pass and the flames spread.
