A fatal accident inquiry will examine the death of Daniel Greer, who was murdered by his neighbour in Airdrie while the attacker was on bail for another violent offence. Greer’s family has welcomed the decision.
Nicholas Henry struck Greer, 33, with a shovel and stabbed him nine times in his front garden on 17 October 2020. Henry moved Greer’s body into the house; Greer’s father found it two days later.
The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said the Lord Advocate had decided to examine the circumstances of the death further. Henry had been arrested twice in the preceding month over drug and violent offences and released on both occasions. He was later jailed for at least 21 years and died in August, aged 49.
Greer’s mother, Amanda, hopes the inquiry will lead to better protection for families against offenders with known histories. Henry had received a 12-year sentence in 2011 for attempting to kill another man.
