Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis has launched an urgent fundraising appeal, warning that it could have to cut services if it cannot secure more money within four weeks.
The centre, described as Scotland’s largest rape crisis centre, is marking its 50th anniversary with its For Her appeal. It is asking people, businesses and organisations to help sustain free specialist support for women and girls affected by rape and sexual violence.
Pressure on the service is already visible: the centre has closed some waiting lists for specialist help and said in February that survivors faced waits of up to 226 days. It says supporting one survivor costs at least £271, while fuller specialist care costs closer to £500 per person.
Scottish Government figures show that 16,430 sexual crimes were recorded across Scotland in 2025–26, the highest total since comparable records began in 1971. The total included 3,229 recorded rapes and attempted rapes, also a high for that period.
