Trash has piled up again outside a home on North Martel Avenue in Los Angeles’ Fairfax District, prompting neighbors to criticize what they see as city inaction.
The yard of the home occupied by Raymond Gaon, 72, holds stacks of bags, clothing, bottles and cans reaching about three feet. Neighbor Yaniv Evan said he has seen Gaon search through garbage before collection day throughout the 15 years Evan has lived on the block. Gaon declined to discuss the property.
Residents differ on how to respond. Gaon’s friend Tonya Lee Jaynes has said he collects recyclables to earn money and lets plants grow to observe insects. Another neighbor, identified as Robert, said Gaon should have a chance to get help.
