A 7-month-old baby was killed in a 10-vehicle crash after a Georgia State Patrol pursuit on Interstate 20 late Saturday night. Authorities said two other infants were taken to a hospital.
The patrol said 33-year-old Cameron Gabriel Kemp was speeding, weaving through traffic and driving without headlights when a trooper tried to stop him. Investigators said Kemp did not stop and lost control on the Wesley Chapel Road exit ramp, triggering the pileup. Kemp was also reported to have died of his injuries.
The patrol defended the pursuit, saying Kemp’s driving posed an immediate danger to others. Activist Devin Barrington-Ward disputed the decision and renewed his call for tighter limits on police chases, arguing that pursuits over traffic violations can increase the risk to the public.
