The Big 12 could be in line for two places in the 12-team College Football Playoff after a turbulent Week 6 across other conferences. A third bid remains a more remote possibility, dependent in part on BYU beating Notre Dame next week.
Texas and Alabama both lost, leaving Georgia as the SEC's only unbeaten team. Indiana and UCLA remain undefeated in the Big Ten. Together, those two conferences now have as many unbeaten teams as the Big 12.
The Big 12's schedule has also kept its leading contenders apart. Last season's conference champion does not face BYU or Utah in the regular season, while BYU and Utah are not due to meet until November. That arrangement gives all three a chance to build strong records before they face one another, though playoff bids are far from assured.
Oregon's postseason outlook, meanwhile, took a major blow with a home loss to UCLA marked by sloppy play.
