Chicago Fire beat NYCFC 2-1 on Saturday despite falling behind early and playing with a man disadvantage. The defeat damaged NYCFC’s chances of reaching the playoffs after a run of just one win in nine league games before the match.
Hannes Wolf put NYCFC ahead in the 19th minute, finishing a pass across the box from Agustin Ojeda after Chicago lost possession near its penalty area. The goal was Wolf’s seventh of the MLS season, and Ojeda recorded his 11th assist.
NYCFC could not make its advantage count. A late turnover by goalkeeper Matt Freese gave Chicago the winning goal with four minutes remaining.
