The Chicago White Sox’s 2026 season ended Saturday with a Game 5 loss to the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Division Series. Chicago had won the first two games before losing three straight.
The defeat capped a sharp turnaround after three consecutive seasons with at least 100 losses, including 121 in 2024. The White Sox went 84-78 this year, finished one game short of the AL Central title and earned a wild-card spot. They beat the Houston Astros, who had 81 regular-season wins, in the Wild Card Series.
Chicago enters the offseason with several young players under team control. Third baseman Miguel Vargas, 26, is controlled through 2029 after a breakout season. Second baseman Chase Meidroth posted 4.5 WAR, while shortstop Colson Montgomery hit 31 home runs. Meidroth and Montgomery are under team control through 2031.
