The Bryson Fire in Malibu had burned 146 acres and was 17% contained as of October 16, Los Angeles County said. No structures had been reported lost or damaged, while fire personnel had suffered minor injuries.
More than 414 emergency personnel were assigned to the fire. Crews were protecting buildings and strengthening control lines to slow its spread and reduce the threat of further damage.
Fire risk remained high across Los Angeles County, with a Red Flag Warning in effect through Saturday. County Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone warned that Santa Ana winds, low humidity and dry vegetation would keep conditions dangerous into the weekend. Officials urged residents to prepare and follow evacuation orders.
The county said it had positioned resources ahead of the heightened fire risk. The Sheriff’s Department also increased patrols in Malibu to assist firefighters and deter burglaries in evacuated neighborhoods.
