Mountain areas in Los Angeles and Ventura counties are under a National Weather Service red flag warning from 6 a.m. Thursday until 10 p.m. Friday. Moderate to locally strong Santa Ana winds and low humidity prompted the warning.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has directed the Fire Department to deploy personnel and equipment ahead of the conditions. The department has also asked CalOES for additional assistance.
The LAFD had not declared its own red flag warning or enacted red flag parking restrictions as of 7 a.m. Wednesday, October 14. Its status could change. If the department declares a Red Flag Day, parking is prohibited in posted areas within Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones.
The Mayor’s Office and the LAFD said they would provide further updates.
