New York City Comptroller Mark Levine and other elected officials urged the Department of Transportation to lower speed limits to 20 mph on eligible streets across 17 community districts whose boards have backed the change under Sammy’s Law.
In an Oct. 19 letter to DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn, they called for swift, district-wide action. They also sought lower limits in community districts with the highest numbers of deadly crashes.
Levine attached his office’s analysis of crashes and deaths in the 17 districts since their boards passed resolutions supporting the change. The request follows a separate appeal to Mamdani last month by 63 elected officials seeking wider implementation of Sammy’s Law.
