Sir Geoff Hurst has praised Jude Bellingham’s response to Thomas Tuchel’s criticism of England after the side’s 2-1 World Cup quarter-final win over Norway.
Bellingham scored both England goals and responded with “whatever” to Tuchel’s post-match assessment of the team. Hurst, a member of England’s 1966 World Cup-winning side, called the reaction fantastic and said Tuchel’s belief that England had not played at their best was encouraging.
England face Argentina in the semi-final on 15 July. Hurst said Argentina would be a tough opponent but expressed confidence that Tuchel and his players would be prepared. He also pointed to the squad’s team spirit as a strength, comparing it with the bond in England’s 1966 side.
