Police Scotland is investigating threatening emails sent to schools across Scotland and is treating the messages as a hoax.
Schools in Glasgow, Edinburgh and East Renfrewshire were among those that received the email. Councils in East Lothian, the Scottish Borders and North Ayrshire also said they were aware of affected schools. The messages are believed to have reached both primary and secondary schools.
East Renfrewshire Council said staff at many of its schools followed relevant procedures after receiving the threat. Its schools were operating as normal while police investigated, the council said.
Perth and Kinross Council told parents and carers that some of its schools and nurseries had received the email. It said there was no current information suggesting cause for concern. Schools in Northern Ireland also received an email claiming an explosive device had been placed in 160 schools; the education minister there said it was not being treated as a viable threat.
