President Donald Trump says Ukraine and Russia have agreed to halt attacks on energy infrastructure, but Moscow has not commented on the claimed agreement. Trump said it would take effect immediately without giving details.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky initially expressed surprise at the announcement. He later said Ukraine was willing to stop striking Russian energy sites if Russia reciprocated, while his officials awaited details of Washington’s talks with Moscow.
Zelensky also said a drone hit a Kyiv power plant after Trump’s announcement, causing outages, and that energy facilities in the Kharkiv region came under attack. Meanwhile, France’s president, Emmanuel Macron, and Ursula von der Leyen, who leads the European Commission, have voiced support for a pause in energy strikes.
