Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream are set to face the Golden State Valkyries in a best-of-seven WNBA Finals series beginning Oct. 17.
Atlanta is seeking its first championship. Golden State, coached by Natalie Nakase, is pursuing a title in its second season as an expansion team. On the court, the matchup could turn on whether the Valkyries limit Reese’s second-chance opportunities and whether the Dream’s defense creates easy scoring chances.
With Caitlin Clark absent from the Finals, the series may offer a measure of Reese’s ability to draw viewers. She has a substantial audience beyond basketball: her Instagram account had about 5.3 million followers as of Oct. 10, more than any other WNBA player and over one million more than Clark.
