Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has activated the state's price-gouging hotline as Hurricane Isaias approaches. His office is accepting complaints after Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in 25 counties.
State law bars excessive price increases for essential goods tied directly to a declared emergency. Uthmeier is asking people to report prices they suspect are being gouged. Depending on the emergency, covered items may include food, water, gas, ice and lodging, as well as storm-related repair services.
DeSantis signed the emergency order Tuesday night, allowing state agencies to position resources ahead of possible impacts in the Panhandle and Big Bend. Isaias could bring heavy rain, strong winds and flooding to parts of Florida by Friday.
