University of Miami freshman offensive lineman Ben Congdon made his first college start in the Hurricanes’ 41-13 win at Clemson, playing 61 of 66 offensive snaps at left guard.
Congdon had already been part of Miami’s guard rotation before the Clemson game. The victory left the fourth-ranked Hurricanes undefeated at 5-0, including 3-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. On 31 pass-blocking snaps, he allowed one quarterback pressure.
His mother, Rebecca Congdon, said the news that he would start, five games into his college career, moved her to tears. Coach Mario Cristobal praised how he handled the occasion. Congdon may retain the starting job in the near term, with fellow guard Max Buchanan appearing likely to miss time because of injury.
