Phoenix firefighters contained a large tire fire outside a west Phoenix auto shop early Thursday, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings.
Crews were called to Corona Wheel & Tires Auto Service near 75th Avenue and Indian School Road around 5 a.m. The fire’s size and the risk to surrounding structures prompted a first-alarm response, bringing in additional crews and equipment.
Firefighters used hose lines to knock down the flames within an hour, while a ladder crew directed water onto the main part of the fire from above. Phoenix Fire Capt. Mike Johnson said the fire appeared to have remained outside the building, with no extension into nearby structures reported at the time.
