A bass drummer hired by an anonymous Reddit user followed a street preacher for more than an hour near Seattle’s SoDo stadiums. The person who hired the drummer posted clips online, saying the idea was to drown out the preacher’s amplified message.
Street preachers often address crowds heading to games and concerts in the area, using megaphones for hours. The Reddit post about the drummer drew nearly 2,000 comments with mixed reactions. Its author said criticism increased after the clips spread beyond a Seattle forum.
The organizer has since asked online whether others would contribute to paying the drummer or other musicians. Preachers have long gathered outside Seattle’s sports venues; one, Ron Cardiel, said in 2025 that he had preached at more than half of Mariners home games over the previous 13 years.
