Chancellor Rachel Reeves is expected to defend her economic record in her third Mansion House address, arguing that her decisions have strengthened the UK economy.

The planned speech comes amid renewed pressure from rising oil prices and weaker household finances. Official figures released last month showed real household disposable income per person fell 0.8% in the first quarter. The measure has declined in four of the past five quarters and stands below its level when Labour took office.

Reeves is expected to point to gains in investment, productivity and wages. GDP figures due on Thursday are expected to show another month without growth, though those figures have yet to be released.
