Scottish MPs have pushed back against Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s call for fans in Scotland and Wales to support England in the World Cup semi-final.
England face Argentina in Atlanta on Wednesday, seeking a place in their first World Cup final since 1966. Ahead of the match, Starmer urged unity across the British Isles and asked supporters of other UK nations to back England.
Labour MP Brian Leishman, who represents Alloa and Grangemouth, criticised the appeal in a post on X. Pete Wishart, the SNP MP for Perth and Kinross-shire, also signalled his opposition with a dismissive social media post.
