Scottish MPs have rejected Keir Starmer’s call for fans in Scotland and Wales to back England in Wednesday’s World Cup semi-final against Argentina.
Starmer urged support across the UK ahead of the match in Atlanta. England are seeking a place in their first World Cup final since 1966.
Brian Leishman, the Labour MP for Alloa and Grangemouth, criticised the prime minister’s appeal in a post on X. Pete Wishart, the SNP MP for Perth and Kinross-shire, also signalled his opposition with a dismissive post.
