Extra officers are on duty across Atlanta before England face Argentina in Wednesday’s World Cup semi-final, the city’s police department said.
Police plan more patrols near Mercedes-Benz Stadium and in other busy areas. The department said its preparations aim to protect the public, discourage crime and keep the event safe as thousands of supporters are expected in the city.
The FBI has classified the fixture as the tournament’s highest-risk match so far. Fans will enter the stadium through two separate gates, but will not be segregated inside.
England and Argentina last met in a World Cup knockout match in 1998. England went out in the last 16 after David Beckham was sent off.
