Nine flights heading for Gatwick declared emergencies before landing after a British Airways aircraft reportedly blocked a runway.
Several incoming flights were held, leading to fuel emergencies. Flight BA2673 had landed earlier and was attended by airport rescue and firefighting crews.
The disruption delayed or diverted flights due to land at Gatwick. Several landed instead at London Luton.
