Two people, including a child, were killed when a vehicle drove across a pitch during a football match at the Stryker soccer complex in Wichita, Kansas, police confirmed. Others were injured and taken to hospital; the extent of their injuries is not known.
Aaron Moses of the Wichita Police Department said on Saturday that the driver was in custody and two juveniles had been in the vehicle. Police have not released the names or ages of those killed pending notification of their families.
Moses said he did not know how the vehicle got onto the pitch or how fast it was travelling. Officials are investigating, and police have opened a portal for video evidence. The city has cancelled all events at the complex until further notice.
