Donald Trump said work to renovate Washington’s East Potomac golf course would begin November 15, though a federal judge has restricted construction at the site.
In a Sunday post, Trump said the public course would reopen in about 15 months. He did not address the legal dispute. U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes had required the government to give notice before substantive construction could proceed and last week ordered a halt to tree removal.
After the announcement, Reyes ordered the government to tell her by 8 p.m. ET Sunday whether its position had changed since a Friday court filing. In that filing, the government characterized Trump’s rebuilding plans as preliminary and said there had been no final agency action. Whether the planned November work would conflict with the court’s orders remains unclear.
