Police have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of murdering former MP Ann Widdecombe, who was found dead at her Devon home on Thursday.
The 78-year-old, a former Conservative minister and Reform politician, had last been seen in a television interview on Wednesday morning. She missed a scheduled appearance later that day. Investigators say she was found with serious injuries at her Dartmoor bungalow.
The suspect is thought to have driven roughly 540 miles on a round trip from Rotherham to Devon. He reportedly returned home on Wednesday evening and ate a supermarket pizza. Police arrested him at his home on Saturday.
Counter Terrorism Policing is now leading the investigation and says it is pursuing several lines of inquiry into the motive. Devon and Cornwall Police has said there is no information suggesting Widdecombe’s death was terrorism-related.
