A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Darrel Rodriguez, 26, on a Manhattan subway platform, the NYPD said.
Police said the shooting happened Saturday on the northbound E platform at the Seventh Avenue station near 53rd Street. Rodriguez was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition and later died. The teen was arrested Thursday afternoon; police have not named him because of his age.
A criminal complaint says surveillance video shows an altercation between the teen and Rodriguez before the teen pointed a gun at Rodriguez's chest and fired. The boy has been arraigned on one count of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
His attorney, Michael Horn, said he brought the teen to a police precinct to surrender. Horn said his client denies involvement and is being held at a juvenile detention center in Brooklyn.
