No. 20 Iowa beat Washington 41-24 on Friday night, putting a College Football Playoff berth within reach. Backup quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski played while starter Hank Brown was sidelined by a shoulder injury, and the Hawkeyes built an early four-touchdown lead.
The victory followed a Week 5 loss to Ohio State and a short turnaround before Iowa's trip to Washington. The Hawkeyes are 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten.
No team ranked in the Top 25 entering Week 6 remains on Iowa's schedule. That leaves a possible path to a 10-2 or 11-1 finish, though a playoff place is not assured. A forecasting model puts Iowa's playoff chances at roughly 60% if it finishes 10-2. The Hawkeyes have never appeared in the College Football Playoff.
