President Donald Trump said Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate ceasefire on attacks involving energy infrastructure. He announced the claimed agreement in a Truth Social post, but its terms remain unclear.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the announcement had come as a surprise to him. He said Ukraine would stop striking Russian oil refineries if Russia stopped attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure, and called for any easing of attacks to be reciprocal and backed by guarantees.
The claim came amid exchanges over energy strikes between the two countries. Trump had criticized Zelenskyy and blamed him for high diesel prices; Zelenskyy said Russia was responsible for the war. Days earlier, the Trump administration announced a deal to acquire Russian diesel while lifting sanctions.
